Motorists wanting to head north on the M6 from Preston are being warned of a month of overnight closures.

Anyone wanting to join from the M55 (Broughton interchange) at Junction 32 heading north will find the junction closed from Monday (30 March).

Works are taking place at Whittingham Lane bridge involving cabling and ducting according to National Highways.

It means drivers will be routed via the A6 up through Broughton and Garstang to join the motorway at M6 Junction 33 instead – a 13-mile diversion or you can head south, to Samlesbury at Junction 31, and re-join the motorway northbound.

The closures are from 9pm to 5am each night and last until Friday 1 May – but will not operate during the Easter Bank Holiday weekend from Thursday 2 April to Tuesday 7 April.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “These works will prevent any delay to the main project which is due to start in September which we’ll provide further details on closer the time.

“A fully signed diversion will be in place.

“We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum.

“We always aim to work to the programme, however unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes.

“Please accept our apologies in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.”
