Rogers' email is powered by Yahoo.</p><p>If you had a Rogers or Yahoo account between 2012 and 2016, you might qualify to claim up to $375 or receive other benefits. </p><p>This comes as part of a settlement from a lawsuit alleging that Yahoo had "inadequate data security measures in place" during that period, leading to breaches that impacted account holders' personal information. </p><p>The companies involved deny any wrongdoing but have agreed to the $20 million settlement to resolve the case.</p><p>Here's everything you need to know about the Yahoo and Rogers class action settlement in Canada, who's eligible to claim and how much you could get.</p><h3>Who is eligible?</h3><br/><p>Canadian Yahoo and Rogers account holders could be eligible for a share of a $20 million settlement related to data breaches between 2013 and 2016. </p><p>If you had an account during the period from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2016, inclusive, you may qualify for compensation.</p><h3>What can you receive?</h3><br/><p>Eligible Canadians can choose from three types of compensation within the settlement:</p><p><strong>Category A Claims:</strong> This option covers reimbursement for expenses incurred as a direct result of responding to the data breaches within four months of receiving the breach notification. If you spent time addressing the impact of the breaches, you could receive up to $25 per hour for up to five hours per breach, totalling a maximum of 15 hours across all three incidents. This means that if you were affected by each breach, you could claim up to $375. </p><p>Additionally, if you paid for Yahoo's premium services, such as ad-free email or Aabaco Small Business services, between August 1, 2013, and December 31, 2016, you could claim up to 25% of those service costs.</p><p><strong>Category B Claims:</strong> This option allows you to claim compensation for wasted time and inconvenience without the need for detailed proof of expenses. You can receive up to $125 for each data breach, amounting to a total of $375 if you were impacted by all three incidents.</p><p><strong>Category C Claims:</strong> Class members can also choose to receive two years of credit monitoring services instead of cash compensation, which may be ideal for those wanting added protection following the breaches. The retail value of this option is estimated at around $478.80.</p><h3>How can you submit a claim?</h3><br/><p>To receive your benefits, you must submit a claim form by <strong>December 27, 2024</strong>. </p><p>Forms are available on the settlement website at <a href="http://www.YahooClassAction.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">YahooClassAction.com</a>. If you do not submit a claim, you will forfeit any compensation and lose the right to claim in the future.</p><h3>When and how are benefits paid out?</h3><br/><p>Once the claims period closes on December 27 and all submitted claims are reviewed, payments for valid claims and credit monitoring services will begin to be processed. The settlement website notes that this process may take over a year to complete.</p><p>For eligible claims, cash payments under categories A and B will be transferred electronically.
