A man has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after an incident on the M6.

Emergency services were called to reports of a concern for welfare incident involving a man at around junction 26 of the M6 at 10.25am on Sunday (1 March).

The man has since been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Greater Manchester Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

The M6 was closed southbound between junction 27 for Wigan and junction 26 for the M58 while emergency services responded to the incident.

Significant delays remained heading southbound at Sunday lunchtime.
