New homes could be built in the garden of a former farm under plans submitted to Wyre Council.

The planning application seeks permission for two new-build houses at Shepherds Farm, 771 Garstang Road, Barton.

According to the access statement in the planning application, the land comprises an L-shaped garden where the two houses, which would be identical in layout, would be built.

Sitting across from the former Boar’s Head pub, land around Shepherds Farm has been developed in recent years or is earmarked for building in future.

The submission states: “In summary, the proposals for two new dwellings represent a modest, well-considered development in a sustainable and appropriate location.”

Barton and the A6 has become a flashpoint in recent years for frustration concerning over-development and its impact on the area’s infrastructure, particularly the road network.

Blog Preston reported last year at huge frustration caused by long running roadworks close to this proposed development, with residents speaking out about what they said had been years of gridlock on the A6.

Traffic issues on the A6 also led to calls last September for a new M6 junction to be built close to Barton Grange and the Flower Bowl, with some seeing it as the only solution to deal with growing number of vehicles from the new housing estates in the area.
