Companies from Preston and Leyland have named and shamed on the Government’s latest list of deliberate tax defaulters.

The two firms were among around 140 individuals and businesses penalised for deliberately defaulting on tax exceeding £25,000 in the latest list shared by HMRC.

Among those on the full list are takeaways, convenience stores, a vape importer and a vape shop. In every case, those named failed to make a full disclosure when HMRC began its investigation – a step that would have kept their details off the list.

Locally, Preston-based True Power of Women Ltd was fined £16,220 and after failing to pay a £27,262 tax bill. The firm is described as being involved in commercial cleaning, catering and freight transport.

Meanwhile, Leyland-based accountants Brandon Nicholas Preston handed a £120,000 fine over its unpaid tax of £177,636.

Kevin Hubbard, HMRC’s Director of Individuals and Small Business Compliance, said: “We are actively tackling tax non-compliance among high street businesses across the UK, and today’s namings show we will act wherever we find it.

“Everyone on this list had the opportunity to come forward to make a full disclosure – and didn’t. HMRC will always pursue those who deliberately refuse to pay what they owe.”
