Members of Preston’s Fit Forward gym have helped raise £1,000 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

The funds were raised through buying pairs of bright pink sports socks in support of one of their members.

Breast cancer survivor Jane Bretherton has credited her training regime at the gym with helping to save her life.

Jane was able to keep training throughout her treatment, which she said helped her cope both physically and mentally.

Jane continued: “I will be forever grateful to both Andrew Naylor, who owns Fit Forward, and Ste and Kelly Nightingale, of North West Fight Academy, for helping me get back to the gym as both put together personalised work-out programmes for me while I was still undergoing treatment, which helped me achieve some PBs!”

Andrew Naylor had a number of pink socks made, which he began selling to gym members to raise funds for the charity.

She also talked about her first realisation of her breast cancer.

Jane said: “I was lifting a barbell, which I brought down quite heavily across my chest. It really hurt in one area. When I felt the area, I felt a lump.

“At first, I thought I had injured myself, but when the lump was still there a couple of weeks later, I went to my doctor.

“I was totally shocked to receive a diagnosis of breast cancer. I have always been into fitness. I celebrated my 50th birthday by running the New York Marathon.”
