Thousands of Preston homes to see bin days change – how to check yours

Thousands of homes in Preston are to see their bin days changed in the same week food waste collections start.

Preston City Council, as previously reported, are preparing to sync up bin collection days on what’s understood are predominantly new build homes in the city – especially across the Cottam area.

At the moment household waste collections and recycling collections occur on different days of the week – on a fortnightly cycle – but this will be brought in line with the rest of the city from Monday 20 April so it’s always the same day of the week for bin collection.

Interim director of environment and property at the city council, councillor Mark Taylor, said: “Preston has experienced significant growth in new housing across the city. This growth means we occasionally have to make significant changes to collection days and areas.

“From Monday 20 April, these changes will be introduced alongside the rollout of Food Waste collections and will help streamline existing collection rounds. The frequency of collections will remain the same, but residents will benefit from having their waste collected on the same day each week, something that is not currently the case for all households.

“Every resident will receive details about the new changes and their updated collection days.”

From Monday 20 April weekly food waste collections will start – with the food caddy bins able to be placed out alongside either the recycling or household waste bins – for collection.

Anyone who is seeing a change in bin day under the new collection rounds will receive an updated collection calendar and guidance.

Households are also being reminded your bin must be out by 7am on the day of collection – as timings of when bin collections take place may be different to what you currently experience due to the round changes.

You can also go onto the Preston City Council website and enter your postcode to see if your bin day is changing.
