The City of Tshwane Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Gareth Mnisi, has been placed on precautionary suspension effective immediately.

Mnisi is also expected to face disciplinary action following evidence of tender rigging at the Madlanga Commission of inquiry into alleged criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system.

The evidence was presented to the commission last week.

The disciplinary action against Mnisi was approved during a council sitting on Thursday evening.

He has been afforded an opportunity to make written representations within seven days, on why he should not suspended.

The council says an independent investigator will be appointed to investigate the allegations of potential misconduct.

Tshwane Mayoral Spokesperson, Samkelo Mgobozi says, “This is to ensure that the process is objective, credible, and capable of withstanding scrutiny. This step reflects the seriousness with which the City is addressing allegations relating to financial governance, accountability, and oversight.”
