An application has been submitted to Wyre Council to turn a disused outbuilding at The Patten Arms, Winmarleigh, into a self‑contained holiday let.
The Grade II listed Patten Arms, which dates back to the early 19th century, has become an increasingly popular venue for weddings and events following recent improvements, including a new patio, access ramp and temporary marquee.
According to the planning and heritage statement by GA Associates, the success of these events has boosted visitor numbers and strengthened the pub’s role as a rural destination.

The proposed conversion would see the two‑storey outbuilding transformed into short‑stay accommodation for wedding guests, event attendees and visitors exploring the surrounding countryside.
The document stresses that all existing brickwork would be kept, with only minor external alterations, ensuring the scheme ‘does not result in any harm to the significance or setting’ of the listed building.
Developers argue the holiday let would support the long‑term viability of the Patten Arms by providing on‑site accommodation, reducing travel demand and contributing to the rural tourism economy.
They say the proposal represents a ‘heritage‑led, sustainable form of development’ that makes efficient use of an existing building
