A ‘teen play area’ will be installed at Goosnargh Green in a £100k project.
The new equipment will be designed for young people aged 12-16 and will offer physical challenges and equipment which can help improve fitness.
Funding for the project has been provided by Whittingham Parish Council, with the design and development led by feedback from residents and users of the green.
Preston City Council will take responsibility for administrating the project and on Wednesday its cabinet will be asked to approve the awarding of the contract for the works to Landscape Engineering Ltd. The Burnley-based company submitted the lowest tender of around £75,000 plus VAT.
A report prepared for the cabinet meeting explains: “The teen play area, will provide a series of physical challenges or equipment within an area of the site for effective exercise designed to strengthen muscles and bones, balance and motor skills. The one proposed at Goosnargh Green is designed for young people aged 12- 16 years.
“The installation of this new facility has been identified as an enhancement to the sports & wellbeing opportunities provided at the open space […] This will complement the previous investment in the open space over recent years which has seen drainage improvement works and tree planting”.
