South Africa’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have hit a bump in the road.

Panama who are also World Cup bound, beat Bafana Bafana 2-1 in the second of their two international friendlies played at the Cape Town Stadium.

After a fairly uneventful first half, the match came to light just before the hour mark when Jose Cordoba scored for the visitors.

Mbekezeli Mbokazi equalised for Bafana with a super strike six minutes later, but their joy was short lived.

Jiovany Ramos netted Panama’s second in the 77th minute to secure his team a first ever victory over an African team.

The defeat was Hugo Broos’ first on home soil as Bafana coach.

The two teams played to a one-all draw in the first match in Durban last Friday.
