A new drainage system is to be installed at a flood-prone open space at the centre of a Preston housing development – to protect surrounding properties.

Preston City Council’s cabinet has given the go-ahead to the £32k project on The Green in Ribbleton.

Members were told that the work would help reduce the “flooding issues” experienced by homes on nearby Otters Close.

The scheme will also make the vast green space itself “more usable” by residents during the winter months.

Several sections of drain will be linked via so-called  ‘catch pits’ that will carry excess rainfall and surface and sub-surface water away from the grassed area and the affected dwellings.

The work is to be carried out by Burnley-based Landscape Engineering Ltd.
