A Fulwood mum-of-three is set to be on the half-marathon starting line this year in support of her youngest daughter.
Louisa Swift hopes to be joined by the start line in the North East by both her daughters, one of which has been diagnosed with a brain tumour last October.
Louisa’s daughter Emily, an assistant psychologist, initially thought she had an ordinary migraine, but after it caused a loss of sight, the tumour was found.

Louisa said: “The doctor Emily saw was great. He thought it was most likely a migraine, but just to be on the safe side, he arranged an appointment at the Stroke Clinic so that Emily could have a scan to rule out anything more serious.
“The scan detected a small right-sided brain tumour between Emily’s eyes and ear. In January, she underwent surgery at the Royal Preston Hospital to have it removed. She was awake throughout the whole procedure.”
She continued: “Although Emily’s surgery was not as successful as we had hoped Emily felt the care she received was exemplary.
“She continues to face further treatment with a courage that leaves us all in awe.”
But this isn’t the first time Louisa has run a race in support of her relatives.
She ran the Great North Run twenty years ago for her mum, who received treatment at Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
Now, she will lace up her running shoes not only for her daughter, but also for her husband, who has received treatment from the centre for his prostate cancer.
Louisa’s daughters, Emily and Katie, will also be participating in the event.

Sue Swire, fundraising manager for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, said: “Our thanks to Louisa for taking on this challenge for us and for sharing Emily’s story.
“We hope Emily’s future treatment goes well and that Emily, Katie, and mum has an enjoyable and injury-free run-up to the Great North Run, which has the most fantastic atmosphere.
“We still have 12 Great North Run Rosemere Cancer Foundation places left to fill should anyone wish to join this amazing trio and around 60,000 other runners, who make the Great North Run the world’s biggest half-marathon.”
