The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says preparations for the 2026 local government elections are well in advance. The Commission says this includes the technical logistics and outreach community requirements for the polls.
A senior IEC delegation briefed the Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs on its 2026/2027 annual performance plan and budget.
Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo says about 80% of their work on the readiness for the upcoming elections has already been concluded.
“We are at about 80% complete with a plartform upgrade. Tha plartform upgrade entails the acquisition of new hardware by servers, storage, and PCs on the one hand.”
