The Regional Court at KuGompo in the Eastern Cape has granted leave to appeal EFF leader, Julius Malema, on his five year direct imprisonment sentence. But the court has denied leave to appeal the conviction.
Magistrate Twanet Olivier, says the court stands by its decision on the conviction.
Malema was sentenced to five years imprisonment for unlawful possession of a firearm and two years for unlawful possession of ammunition. The sentences will run concurrently.
