New Campaign Aims to Help North East Commuters Get Better Value on Bus Journeys

Stagecoach has launched a new campaign across the North East aimed at helping customers make more informed decisions about their bus travel, with a focus on getting better value for regular journeys.

The initiative comes in response to changing travel patterns in the region, where greater awareness of capped single fares has led many passengers to rely on pay-as-you-go travel as their default option.

While effective for occasional trips, this shift can mean frequent passengers are missing out on the significantly better value offered by longer-term tickets.

The campaign places a strong emphasis on clear, cost-per-day messaging, demonstrating how weekly tickets such as the Megarider can reduce the overall cost of travel for those making multiple journeys each week.

In areas such as Sunderland, weekly tickets can equate to as little as £2.40 per day, offering a sensible alternative to repeated single fares.

Delivered across Newcastle, Sunderland and Teesside, Stagecoach teams will also be engaging directly with communities during the week commencing 20 April, with events in Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

A branded trike will visit key locations, offering information and giveaways to highlight the value of weekly travel and support customer understanding at a local level.

The campaign is primarily targeted at commuters and frequent travellers, as well as existing customers currently purchasing single tickets, with the aim of encouraging greater uptake of longer-term products and increasing use of the Stagecoach Bus App.

Steve Walker, Managing Director at Stagecoach North East said:

“We know that many customers have become more familiar with single fares in recent years, but for those travelling regularly, there is often much better value available.

“This campaign is about making that clearer; using simple, transparent messaging to show how weekly tickets can reduce the cost per journey and provide greater convenience for frequent travel.

“By helping customers choose the ticket that best fits their travel patterns, we’re supporting more affordable, accessible and sustainable public transport across the North East.”

The campaign will run through to the end of May, with performance measured across ticket sales, customer engagement and app downloads, helping to inform future activity and continue improving the value proposition for customers.

Stagecoach continues to work closely with local partners and stakeholders to promote bus travel as a convenient, affordable and reliable option for communities across the region.
