A recently-closed Church Street nightclub is expected to reopen in May with a new name and under new management.

Popworld Preston closed for the final time on Saturday (11 April) with the outgoing management team confirming that the venue would reopen with a ‘new offer’ in the weeks ahead.

Now Blog Preston has learned that the venue has moved from being directly managed by operators Stonegate – who own the Popworld brand along with others such as Walkabout and Be at One – to being leased independently.

When it reopens, the venue will be known as Bamboogy and be the second to hold that name. The first Bamboogy was opened on Bradshawgate in Bolton by Paul Stray and David Brown.

It is expected that the venue will reopen in May but this could change.

A spokesperson for Stonegate told Blog Preston: “Popworld Preston remains part of Stonegate Group and has transitioned from a managed venue to our leased and tenanted division. This means the venue will now be operated by independent publicans.

“The site is currently closed for refurbishment and will reopen under a new name, Bamboogy. This is a late-night concept created by publicans Paul Stray and David Brown, and it will be their second venue under this brand.

“At present, the venue is expected to reopen mid-May, although this is still to be confirmed.”
