Oasis Community Housing has been selected as the charity of the year for 2026 by the North East team at Lovell.

The announcement builds on a partnership that began in 2023, with Lovell supporting the charity through fundraising, volunteering and practical assistance across the region.

To date Lovell has raised £57,469 for the charity – which supports people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness across the region – as well as providing £8,500 worth of volunteering and donations in kind. Oasis Community Housing provides a range of services including drop-in centres in Gateshead and Sunderland, a crisis team, accommodation projects, support groups, and one-to-one advice on debt, benefits and bank accounts.

Sarah Gorman, Chief Executive of Oasis Community Housing, said:

“We are delighted to be chosen as charity of the year by Lovell in the North East. Their ongoing support for our work has gone far beyond traditional charity-corporate partnerships, even including pro-bono redevelopment work to improve one of our supported accommodation projects.

“Lovell staff have given time to hosting charity events, running Great North Runs, playing in our Oasis Cup football tournament, and championing our Giving a Home Christmas appeal. We’re so excited to continue working together this coming year, to make an even bigger difference for local people facing homelessness.”

Lovell has helped the charity in a variety of ways over the past year, including:

  • Supporting the Oasis Community Housing Christmas appeal by sponsoring its Gingerbread Street event for the second year running, helping the charity raise £130,000
  • Holding a charity golf day that raised over £5,000
  • Helping refurbish a kitchen at one of its premises, a safe haven for young women leaving care
  • Entering a nine-person team in the Great North Run which raised £6,700
  • Lovell Marketing and Social Impact Manager Ashleigh Tate joining the charity’s Black and Gold Ball committee, volunteering her time to help organise the annual fundraising event.

Phil Jones, Director of Land and Partnerships for Lovell in the North East, said:

“Continuing our support for Oasis Community Housing is extremely important to us because having a safe and secure home is essential and something that everyone deserves to be able to access.

“The charity helps people who are going through the most difficult of circumstances. Not just the major problem of homelessness, but the underlying reasons and causes that led them to be in that situation.

“Through our partnership we have seen the massive impact the charity has on people’s lives and we look forward to continuing to support their vital work in 2026.”
