A martial arts instructor from Preston has become a published author with the release of two gritty crime novels.
Peter Spencer, owner and senior coach at Nippon UK Martial Arts, on Fylde Road, has just released his second novel in the Jacob Marley thriller series.
His first novel, Six Degrees: Life and Death, was released at the start of the year in paperback and Kindle, while his second in the series, Marley, came out in April. The final part of the trilogy will follow later in the year.

For literary enthusiast Peter, 64, who was brought in Deepdale and now lives at Grange, Ribbleton, the desire to write his own novels was an ambition her harboured for many years.
He said: “I’m a keen reader and just kept thinking that a lot of what I was reading was not as good as the idea I’d had. So, with my wife Catherine acting as my editor, I started writing and it became a big project for me.”
Writing under the name of George Davis, which is a mixture of his dad’s first name and his mum’s maiden name, Peter’s novels follow the trials and tribulations of former marine turned crime reporter Jacob Marley as he becomes more engrossed in the crimes he covers.
With the Jacob Marley name being a nod to a character from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Peter said the discipline he has learned as a martial arts instructor has served him well when it came to writing.
He added: “It is about discipline on the mat and darkness on the page and the hardest part is always getting started. However, I have really enjoyed the process and the feedback has been really nice.”
