A Preston resident is set to run the London Marathon in support of an armed forces charity.

Samantha Parker, 36, will join thousands of runners on Sunday 26 April to raise funds for SSAFA.

Despite not having a military background herself, Samantha decided to raise funds for the charity after learning about it through her friend, Paul.

Samantha, a long-standing Preston North End season ticket holder said: “Training for the London Marathon has been a real challenge alongside work and family life, but I’m incredibly proud to be running for SSAFA.

“I’ve learned so much about the support the charity gives to serving personnel, veterans and their families, and it feels special to be able to do something practical to help.

“Running alongside my friend Paul has made it even more meaningful.”

The funds she raises will go towards the charity’s work supporting veterans and their families with practical and emotional assistance.

She added: “Knowing the difference SSAFA makes to people’s lives has kept me motivated through the training. I’m really looking forward to race day and hopefully doing the charity proud.”

Samantha has so far raised £2,200 towards her £2,500 target and donations can be made here.
