A norovirus outbreak has closed a ward at Royal Preston Hospital.
Hospital bosses at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust confirmed to Blog Preston they had infection control measures in place at one of the RPH wards.
The stomach bug, which causes vomiting and diarrhoea, comes with a stay at home warning.
A spokesperson for the hospital trust said: “The Trust follows strict infection prevention and control procedures to help ensure we keep our patients and colleagues safe whilst in our Hospitals.
“In instances where a norovirus outbreak is detected, bays or wards may be closed to new admissions and visiting may be restricted in those areas to help prevent further spread.”
Blog Preston understands the norovirus outbreak is also having an impact on waits in A&E due to the knock-on effect of the ward closure and the wait for admissions.
Anyone who has the norovirus symptoms is urged to stay away from the hospital either as a patient or a visitor until they are 48-hours clear from the last sign of symptoms.
More details on norovirus can be found on the NHS website.
