As we’re officially in Bank Holiday season, looking forward to those well-earned days off is a given. However, what if I told you that 2027 is looking even better when it comes to those ‘substitute’ Bank Holidays, extending our time off?
Once Easter is over, the next Bank Holiday in the UK is on Monday, May 4, shortly followed by the Spring Bank Holiday on Monday, May 25.
What is more, the UK is looking at a three-day working week next year around the Christmas period, with a whopping five days off in a row! What is more, January 1, 2028, falls on a Saturday, meaning we will get a ‘substitute’ day on Monday, January 3.
So, if you take just two days of annual leave on December 30 and 31 in 2027, you will get a whopping 10 days off from December 25 until January 3!

The Government stated on their website: “If a bank holiday is on a weekend, a ‘substitute’ weekday becomes a bank holiday, normally the following Monday.
Your employer does not have to give you paid leave on bank or public holidays.
Bank holidays might affect how and when your benefits are paid.”
