A grieving husband has urged people to think twice about the impact their actions and decisions could have after his wife was killed in a crash in Manchester.

Aliya Mamsa, who carried the surname Mulla before she was married, from Preston originally and an audiologist working at Royal Preston Hospital, was 25 when she was involved in a crash on Moss Lane East on 6 November 2023. The driver of the other vehicle was travelling 68mph in a 20mph area when it struck the car she was in with her husband Omar Mamsa.

She was taken to hospital where she would die from her injuries on 7 November. Aliya and Omar were newly married, living in Bolton and due to pick up the keys to their first home.

The driver of the car travelling 68mph was Rio Haughton, 37, who had earlier that year finished serving a sentencing for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs. In March 2026, he was jailed for seven years at Manchester Crown Court and made subject to a five-year driving ban with a three year and three-month extension to take account of his time in custody.

After Haughton was sentenced, husband Omar told Blog Preston of his ‘extremely caring, loving, thoughtful and very supportive’ partner Aliya.

But he stressed the need for the people to think twice before driving dangerously and about how they drive, highlighting the devastating impact that choice can have on others.

He said: “I really believe this incident highlights how dangerous driving can devastate families, shatter futures and leave a lasting impact on the wider community.

“I want people to understand that the moment they sit behind the wheel, they are in control of something that can become a lethal weapon if used irresponsibly.

“My hope is that anyone who reads or comes across this story will think twice before driving dangerously and consider the profound impact their actions and choices can have on others.”

Omar has been deeply affected by the death of his partner, coming at a time when they were realising their future plans together.

Speaking incredibly highly of his partner, he said: “She always put others before herself and would go out of her way to literally help anyone without any hesitation whatsoever.

“Aliya was a very hard-working woman who deeply valued her religious beliefs and constantly sought to achieve the best of both worlds. She lived her life with kindness, purpose and integrity.

“The events surrounding this event have been incredibly difficult for me to cope with. In the week of the crash, we were due to receive the keys to our new home and we had so many plans for the future together.

“The loss of my wife has left a shattering void in my life. This is a pain I carry with me constantly.

“I pray that Allah, the Almighty, showers his infinite mercy and blessings upon Aliya and forgives her shortcomings. She will always remain in my heart.

“While a sentence may one day come to an end, the pain of losing her never will.”

Aliya was very highly thought of in her role as an audiologist at Royal Preston Hospital. She had progressed to a senior position at the hospital despite her young age and was known as someone who would go above and beyond for both her patients and her colleagues.

A joint statement from colleagues at Royal Preston Hospital said: “Aliya was a respected and well-liked colleague within the team. Aliya progressed at work quickly, due to her dedication, knowledge and care for patients.

“At such a young age, and soon after qualifying, Aliya was promoted to a senior position. Aliyas early career progression reflects not only professional competence but also initiative, resilience, and a strong commitment to improving patient outcomes.

“Aliya was extremely conscientious, an asset and valuable member of the Team. She was a team player and would ‘step up’ whenever asked. She would go above and beyond for her patients, colleagues and the department.

“Aliya was determined to make a difference when she came to work, it was obvious to anyone that worked with her. She cared for all and her empathy shone through.

“Aliyas’s future looked bright and promising. She was excited and her enthusiasm was contagious and inspiring. Aliya was newly married, due to receive the keys to her own home and had earned a Specialised senior promotion at work. She had achieved so much at such a young age. This makes the loss of Aliya, so much harder to come to terms with.

“Aliya was a warm individual, who always had a smile on her face, laughing and
never said ‘no’. Aliya is greatly missed. There is a void, which cannot be filled. We were left heartbroken, shocked and have never fully recovered from the news of Aliya’s sudden parting.

“We continue to heal and support each other.

“In Aliyas’s honour, a bench was raised, which has been placed in the entrance of the department. We all find solace in sitting on the bench, for times of reflection.

“We all feel privileged and honoured to have known this beautiful young lady. Aliya is missed dearly and will never be forgotten.”
