A replica 17th century Spanish galleon is set to arrive in Cardiff later this month as part of its grand 2026 European tour.
The historic Galeón Andalucía will dock at Britannia Quay from May 29 to June 7, giving visitors a rare opportunity to step aboard the impressive vessel and experience what life was like on ships that once linked continents and explored new worlds.
The visit marks the UK launch of the ship’s latest European tour and organisers say it will be the only opportunity for people in Cardiff to go onboard during its stay.
Open daily from 10am until 8pm, the floating museum offers visitors the chance to explore the decks of the famous galleon, discover its maritime history and learn about the voyages that shaped global trade and exploration centuries ago.
Built between 2009 and 2010 by the Nao Victoria Foundation, the Galeón Andalucía is a full-scale replica of a 17th century Spanish galleon.
Since launching, the ship has travelled more than 48,000 nautical miles across the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans, as well as the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Red Sea. It has visited almost 100 ports around the world and taken part in major cultural events across four continents.
During the 2026 tour, the ship will also promote Andalusia as a tourism destination, celebrating the region’s maritime heritage and culture.
Organisers have launched an online promotion offering discounted tickets ahead of the Cardiff visit, available until May 28. Visitors are being encouraged to book early, with online ticket holders given priority entry and limited availability expected at the box office if advance tickets sell out.
Schools and organisations interested in arranging group visits are being asked to contact organisers directly by email.
Visitors will also have the option to book sailing experiences aboard the Galeón Andalucía during selected voyages as part of the wider Tall Ship Experience programme.
