Dalton Park has launched the Package for Milly initiative, taking an important step towards improving access to essential menstrual products across the North East.
The move sees the outlet become one of a growing number of UK retail destinations supporting efforts to tackle period poverty.
Originally launched on International Women’s Day in 2025, the initiative is named in honour of women’s suffragette campaigner Millicent Fawcett. Now arriving at Dalton Park ahead of Period Poverty Awareness Week (11th–17th May), the programme provides a timely and important intervention, ensuring that anyone in need can access vital sanitary products easily, discreetly and without stigma while visiting the outlet.
Shoppers at Dalton Park can simply ask any member of the outlet’s team for “a package for Milly” and will be provided with a free, discreet bag containing essential menstrual products, no questions asked.
Period poverty remains a serious issue across the UK. According to ActionAid UK, 10% of girls have been unable to afford menstrual products, 15% have struggled to access them, and 19% have resorted to using less suitable alternatives due to cost.
The initiative provides immediate, practical support, while also reinforcing the importance of menstrual products as a basic necessity, not a privilege, and helping to raise awareness of the ongoing issue of period poverty.
Richard Kaye, Centre Manager at Dalton Park, commented:
“We’re incredibly proud to introduce the Package for Milly initiative at Dalton Park. This is about creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all our visitors, ensuring that we are equipped with necessary resources, so guests can feel assured. Launching ahead of Period Poverty Awareness Week makes this even more meaningful, as it allows us to play a small but important role in raising awareness and supporting those who need it most.”
The introduction of Package for Milly at Dalton Park marks another step in the centre’s ongoing commitment to community wellbeing and inclusivity, ensuring that practical support is readily available for all visitors.
