Deputy President Paul Mashatile will deliver the eulogy at former North West premier Bushy Maape’s special official provincial funeral in Vryburg this Saturday.
Maape died after a short illness in Johannesburg last weekend at the age of 68. He was the North West Premier between 2021 and 2024.
Maape, a struggle stalwart, has been accorded a special official provincial funeral by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Maape has been described as selfless by many. The former Robben Island prisoner has also been hailed for his contribution to the struggle against apartheid.
The Special Provincial Official Funeral will feature ceremonial elements provided by the South African Police Service.

Maape’s younger brother, Neo, says he was like a parent to him.
“He actually liked mathematics a lot, but unfortunately, because of his arrest, he couldn’t pursue his studies in mathematics.”
On Tuesday, Premier Lazarus Mokgosi led a delegation of the Provincial Executive Committee to Maape’s home to pay homage to him.
Mokgosi says, “As provincial government, we respectfully came here to pay homage to one of our greatest stalwarts, one of our heroes, our veteran Bushy Maape, who was the former Premier of the North West Province.”
