Memorial bench in Leyland destroyed in arson attack

A memorial bench in Leyland has been set alight by youths.

South Ribble Police shared a picture as part of an arson investigation.

The bench, at Cowling Lane near to the River Lostock, was destroyed and will have to be replaced.

A police spokesperson said: “Recently we have had a spate of youths setting fires in the local area of Leyland and Bamber Bridge area.

“The picture is an image of a memorial bench that was recently set on fire in Leyland. These deliberate acts puts both the young people and their associates at risk and also the communities they live in.”

No arrests have been made at this stage and police say the investigation remains ongoing.
