This follows the Constitutional Court ruling that invalidated the National Assembly’s decision not to institute impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa on the basis of the report. Meanwhile, Ramaphosa has indicated that he plans to take the report under review.

Legal analyst Andries Nkome says the President now faces a race against time.
‘The ruling of the Constitutional Court states that the impeachment processes ought not to stop until there is a court order to the effect that it should not proceed. Which, therefore, means that the president needs to rush and make sure that the review processes take place as fast as possible, and they should also include, in the interim, an order that says pending the review of the independent committee, there should be a stop to the processes of the parliamentary impeachment committee,” says Nkome.
