Messages of condolence are continuing to pour in from the family, friends and colleagues of former North West Premier Bushy Maape.
Maape died on Saturday night in Johannesburg after a short illness.
He was 68.
He was the premier of the province from 2021 till 2024 after taking over from Professor Job Mokgoro, who was accused of ignoring ANC instructions.
Mourners described Maape as a courageous leader who was principled and ethical.

His childhood friend Mahlomola Kgasu was recruited by Maape to join politics.
Kgasu says he will remember Maape as humble and bright.
“I know Comrade Bushy as the fierce anti-apartheid campaigner of yesteryears, but also as a fierce, courageous community builder post-1990. A very humble person, a very courageous person whom I have known for over 40 years now, having been recruited by him into the ANC underground structure in 1979. So, we knew him as one of the brightest students in secondary school.”
