The African Transformation Movement’s (ATM) Member of Parliament, Vuyolwethu Zungula, says his party will oppose the urgent court bid by President Cyril Ramaphosa to interdict Parliament’s impeachment process.
Last month, the Constitutional Court directed the Speaker of the National Assembly to establish an impeachment committee to investigate Ramaphosa’s conduct regarding the 2020 Phala Phala farm theft.
Zungula says parliament’s impeachment committee presents the president with an opportunity to clear his name.
Zungula adds, “We are going to oppose that urgent interdict by the President, because we feel it is very important that South Africans know the truth about Phala Phala, primarily because the president amasses so much power over the state, over the entire government, over the lives of 62 million South Africans. Therefore, it becomes paramount that South Africans must satisfy themselves that their president is in no way in the wrong, is in no way guilty of violations of the law and the constitution.”
