A number of trees across Preston’s parks have been damaged.

Preston City Council’s parks department shared a picture of a tree in Haslam Park which had damage to its bark.

Although the statement said the damage was caused ‘most likely by dogs’, Prestonians in the comments on the council post put the blame on deer rather than dogs.

A statement said: “We’re saddened to report that more damage to trees in Haslam Park, Ashton Park, and Moor Park has taken place, more than likely by dogs.

“Not only are some of these trees in conservation areas and heritage parks, but enough damage to a tree could even kill it, and therefore the amenity it brings to the space.

“If you see any damage to trees taking place, please do not approach but take note of where and when, plus any descriptions and report to parks@preston.gov.uk
