The riverside in Penwortham will feature a new place to eat – and exercise – under plans from a local business owner.
Maria Murphy opened The Balanced Bean as a coffee shop with yoga and Pilates studio on Brownedge Road in Lostock Hall earlier this year.
That launch has been a success and Maria has now signed a deal to take on the site of the Riverside Breakfast Bar & Coffee Shop on Leyland Road – overlooking the River Ribble and facing the Penwortham Old Bridge to Broadgate.

It will be a bistro called The Water’s Edge in the main of the building with the downstairs redeveloped into a basement and pilates studio.
She told Blog Preston: “I wanted to expand and bring the riverside area back to life. We get the keys in August and hope to open our doors by the end of October.”
A post on Facebook from The Balanced Bean adds: “We’ve got something else brewing.
“Following the success of Balanced Bean, we’re excited to share that a brand-new bistro is coming to Lower Penwortham on the river in Autumn 2026.
“A fresh destination to eat, drink, and gather, with stunning riverside views and plenty more details to come.
“We’re also thrilled to announce that the development will include a brand new basement yoga and Pilates studio, creating a dedicated space for movement, wellbeing, and community.
“Watch this space — we can’t wait to welcome you.”
