Kaizer Chiefs were a much-improved team last season, finishing third on the log, compared to the previous two seasons when they failed to make the top eight.
Amakhosi also managed to reach the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup. But in the Premiership, they still finished a whopping 14 points behind second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns.
The team’s Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung says this coming season will be when they reclaim their former glory.
“This is an important season for us as we build on the foundation that has been laid last season. We are challenging and last season we showed that and we will continue to reclaim the glory and make sure we rise to the levels we want to be and this is a key season and watch the space,” says Motaung.
Meanwhile, Chiefs launched the third edition of Toyota Cup and will face Zimbabwe champions, Scottland FC, at the Royal Bafokeng stadium in Rustenburg on the 26th of July. Previously Amakhosi played against Yanga FC from Tanzania and Asante Kototo from Ghana.
“We have looked at a number of teams, we have had teams from west and east Africa and southern Africa was the space we needed to look at and we are proud of the work they are doing in their league, great investment in the game and our past players are there,” Motaung explains.
Scottland FC have former Chiefs players in their team in Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat, and their chairman, Tonderai Sakupwanya, is grateful for the opportunity to play Amakhosi.
“This occasion is momentous and a milestone for our team, we are a very young club working with a clear vision, there are certain things that we want to achieve, and this is one of them,” says Sakupwanya.
Meanwhile, Motaung also wished Bafana Bafana well for their FIFA World Cup opening encounter against Mexico on Thursday.
“We are very excited about the World Cup we are proud to have Bradley Cross representing Kaizer Chiefs there, but this is about the nation and all the best to all the players just know that Amakhosi nation is supporting you and South Africa must do well,”
The well wished for Bafana Bafana are pouring in from all over.
