President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier cautioned those participating in protests on Tuesday to ensure their right to protest, does not threaten or intimidate others.
Cosatu’s General-Secretary Solly Phetoe says, “We must defend democracy meaning that we must all of us respect the laws of this country. No one has the right to call for a national shutdown without following the due processes.”
“The issue around people who are undocumented in SA, we are calling on government to act decisively in terms of making sure that process is being coordinated properly by government and not by individual people who will go to the streets. So, we are rejecting the shutdown. We are rejecting the attacks to the people and migrant workers,” adds Phetoe.

Meanwhile, there is increased traffic flow on the N1 between Pretoria and Polokwane.
This as undocumented migrants are being ferried by buses from various centres to the repatriation centre at the Beitbridge Border Post in Musina, Limpopo.
The provincial Transport Department spokesperson, Mashudu Mabata, says traffic volumes have picked up since the weekend following the start of the school winter holidays.
