Death on the line at Leyland sees major rail disruption

All lines are closed between Preston and Wigan due to emergency services working at the scene of a death on the line.

National Rail is reporting disruption to Avanti West Coast, TransPennine Express and Northern services throughout Friday (19 June).

Emergency services were called to the scene at Leyland station between Preston and Bolton / Wigan North Western at 7.20am.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Leyland railway station at 7.20am today (19 June) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Major disruption is expected to last throughout Friday morning with services being delayed or cancelled.
