Civil society movement, Activists and Citizens Forum, has condemned National Assembly (NA) Speaker Thoko Didiza’s decision not to oppose President Cyril Ramaphosa’s application to interdict the Impeachment Committee.
The group says the move breaks with the Impeachment Committee, where most parties had agreed to oppose the President’s bid to halt the process.
The Forum has warned that the ANC is repeating past mistakes.
Activists and Citizens Forum spokesperson Dennis Bloem says, “The Speaker is the chief custodian of Parliament. The Speaker is there to protect and be on the side of members of Parliament. What the Speaker has done here is that she has distanced herself from what the Members of Parliament are saying.”
