President Cyril Ramaphosa says government is taking steps to reshape the country’s skills development system by shifting focus away from training that only results in certificates.

He was speaking during the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Youth Day in Soweto.

Ramaphosa says the new approach aims to ensure that qualifications lead directly to work experience, enabling young people to study while gaining practical employment.

He adds that government is strengthening the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college system to position it as a key driver of occupational skills.

Ramaphosa also emphasised the importance of partnerships with employers, SETAs and the private sector, noting that skills are developed not only in classrooms but also within industries and communities.
