A busy rural cut-through route between Longridge and Preston is to stay open after roadworks were pushed back.

Lancashire County Council made a last-minute decision to halt the closure of Haighton Green Lane.

Motorists were left facing gridlock on the eastern edge of the city due to existing temporary lights at Longridge Road and also through Goosnargh.

Work, by BT, had been due to begin at the D’urton Lane end of Haighton Green Lane, on Tuesday (23 June) and the road was to be closed for two days.

But the county council published an update during Monday late afternoon to say the work would now be halted until Monday 20 July.

A statement said: “To help minimise disruption for residents and road users, we’ve made the decision to delay two planned sets of road works. This allows us to better manage the impact on the network and keep journeys moving where possible.”

The temporary traffic lights at Roman Way Industrial Estate where it meets Longridge Road are due to continue until Friday 17 July and are for work being undertaken by Electricity North West.
