The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) online portal has recorded over 30 000 transactions in little over three hours for its first day of voter registration weekend. That’s according to IEC Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, Masego Sheburi who was updating the media on how the first day voter registration weekend is going.

Sheburi says thus far only 16 out of 23 706 voting stations experienced challenges. He attributed the challenges to service delivery and not IEC or its work.
“The issues are unrelated to elections or the Electoral Commission. It is either localised disputes of political parties or people who are unhappy with service delivery or demarcations. We call on those protesters to do so without affecting the rights of other people who want to register to vote.”
