The Institute of Election Management Services in Africa (IEMSA), says the Electoral Commission’s (IEC) broader voter education campaign of getting young people involved, would be a success if 2-million youth register to vote this weekend.

The national voter registration weekend ends on Sunday.

The Institute’s Executive Chairman Terry Tselane says the campaign has been largely driven to try to get as many young voters to participate.

“Those are the people who when you check your voters roll you find that the majority of them are not registered. So, if IEC is able to get at least two million people registered in these two days, I think that will be a milestone. Hopefully this campaign will be able to bear fruits. Young people mostly are unemployed. They don’t actually see how the democratic project has yielded any fruit for them.”
