The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has retained ward 11 in Malmesbury in by-elections at the Swartland Local Municipality in the Western Cape. The PA secured almost 53.26% of the overall votes in yesterday’s by-election.
The party’s Raymond Ricardo Mains has been elected as the ward’s new councillor.
Four candidates from the African National Congress, Democratic Alliance, PA and the Truth and Solidarity Movement contested the election.
Provincial Electoral Officer, Michael Hendrickse, says the overall voter turnout for the by-election was just over 58%.
