Former South African Police Service (SAPS) organised crime boss Richard Shibiri has been dismissed from his position.

Reliable sources at the SABC reveal that Shibiri’s dismissal followed a disciplinary hearing conducted last month.

SAPS has confirmed his departure but has refrained from providing additional details regarding employer-employee relations.

In a statement the SAPS says, “The disciplinary proceedings were conducted in accordance with applicable SAPS prescripts and principles of procedural fairness. Major General Shibiri was found guilty of misconduct relating to conduct that brought the organisation into disrepute, including associating himself with a known criminal.”

Matlala’s ‘loan’ to Shibiri

During his testimony before the Madlanga Commission, Shibiri said that alleged cartel member Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala had loaned him R70 000 to repair his son’s vehicle.

However, bank statements presented to the Commission indicate that Shibiri and his son would still have had a combined R50 000 remaining had they paid for the repairs themselves.
