A local family have hosted an annual football fundraiser to raise £6,200 for two charities.

Jan de Jong, along with his family, raised funds for Freddie’s Sunshine, which supports families through child loss and Andy’s Man Club, which hosts mental health support groups for men.

The football fundraiser, hosted at Fulwood Amateurs, brought the community together for live music, a raffle and food and drink.

The family, who raised funds for Freddie’s Sunshine at their event last year, spoke about why they chose these charities.

Jan de Jong said: “We’ve chosen Freddie’s Sunshine as both me and Mark Beaumont worked together, and it was Mark and Aimee’s son (Freddie) who passed away suddenly two weeks after his first birthday.

“I try to pick a different charity every year, and knowing what great work Andy’s Man Club does, it just felt right we help them this year.”

The de Jong family are already looking towards their next fundraising event.

Jan added: “I hope to raise more money next year, but I’m undecided which charity I want to work with. If you know of any local charity groups which need to raise money, please let me know.”
