More than 300 scooter and Mod enthusiasts recently set up camp at the Canberra Club, next to BAE Systems’ Samlesbury site, for this year’s Modafest weekender.
Now in its 11th year, Modafest celebrates Mod culture by bringing together live bands, DJs, a custom scooter show, food, entertainment and, as its finale, a ride-out which headed along the A59 from the Samlesbury site to the Black Bull Inn at Old Langho, between Blackburn and Whalley.
Modafest headliners this year were two of the UK’s top ska bands, Ska Face and House of Ska.

Samlesbury was a new venue for Modafest, which is organised by Peter Reid and scooter enthusiast Spencer Coe. Peter founded the festival and runs Preston scooter dealership Scooter Moda, which is based in North Road in the city centre.
It has previously been held at Whittingham Club and Walmer Bridge Hall and has confirmed that it will return to Samlesbury on 2-4 July 2027.
Peter uses Modafest to raise funds for charity Rosemere Cancer Foundation in support of Rosemere Cancer Centre, where he underwent successful treatment for late-stage bowel cancer in 2011.
Peter said: “We will be announcing the total raised for Rosemere Cancer Foundation when all is verified with the charity, but the new venue proved a big success.
“We have had a lot of really positive feedback about this year’s Modafest, which is great as enthusiasm for the weekender seems to grow year on year. This year, we even had guests travel from Fuengirola on Spain’s Costa del Sol to join us.”
Rosemere Cancer Foundation works to bring world class cancer treatments and services to patients from throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria at the Rosemere Cancer Centre. This is the region’s specialist cancer treatment and radiotherapy centre at the Royal Preston Hospital, while it also supports services at another eight cancer units across the two counties.
