A Chorley couple have created their own dream venue for watching the World Cup – in their garden.
Nicola and Martyn Bleakley turned their Tiger Modular garden building into a fully equipped ‘pub shed’ complete with a bar, integrated sound system, and big-screen television. With bifold doors and a built-in speaker system, the matches can be enjoyed both inside and outside.
Nicola said: “We just wanted to make it somewhere fun to watch the match. The indoor-outdoor space means we can really make the most of the weather because you’re not stuck indoors watching the TV. We created an open-plan space so people can see the match from the sofa, behind the bar, at the bar, and even in the garden thanks to the bifold doors.”

She added: “The speakers really make it great for match days. You can hear the sound from in the bar or out in the garden. We also had the TV plug installed higher up during the build stage, which means there are no messy wires.”
The project was completed in just one week, costing the couple a total of £35,000, with a further £2,000 spent on interior furnishings and finishing touches.
She said, “When weighing up the cost of an extension versus a modular garden building, it was a no-brainer. Also, the drinks are cheaper here than at the pub and it’s not far for us to stumble to bed afterwards.”

The Bleakleys are among a growing number of homeowners repurposing garden buildings into entertainment hubs, creating dedicated spaces for watching sport and spending more time hosting at home.
Stuart Davison, founder and director at Tiger Modular, said: “We’re increasingly approached by customers who want their garden buildings designed with entertainment in mind, especially around the World Cup and other sporting events.
“There seems to be a real appetite for spaces that feel purpose-built for these occasions, so incorporating integrated audio, quality screens, and atmospheric lighting can completely transform a garden room into the perfect matchday venue.
“Most people looking to add additional spaces for entertaining guests at home are surprised when they find out that garden rooms can be designed, built, and installed in a fraction of the time it takes to complete a traditional extension, and at considerably lower cost too.”
