Members, staff and the wider community will collectively cycle 3,300 miles to cover the equivalent distance from Inspire Youth Zone to the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The fundraiser is inspired by ‘Grandad Tony’ who cycled 500 miles for the charity last month.

Almost half of the miles have already been completed on the virtual tour, with 1,805 miles left to reach the location of the 2026 World Cup final in the ‘Mission to MetLife’ challenge.

Vital funds will be raised from the cycling for Inspire whilst also bringing physical activity, teamwork and community spirit to those taking part.

Janine Blythe, CEO of Inspire Youth Zone, said: “As a charity, we need to raise £1.6 million every year to keep our doors open for local young people, so we’re always looking for new and creative ways to fundraise.

“This challenge has taken on a life of its own. It started with Grandad Tony inspiring our members and now they’re inspiring our community in return.

“This year, they’ve already taken part in the Chorley 2K, entered our £50 to Fortune Corporate Challenge, and now they’re cycling all the way to New Jersey… virtually!

“I couldn’t be prouder of their determination and enthusiasm. Every mile cycled and every pound donated helps us continue providing opportunities that change young people’s lives.

“Thank you to everyone taking part and everyone supporting them.”

The challenge is set to complete on 18 July, the day before the World Cup final.

Supporters are invited to the Family and Community Day from 10am to 1pm at Inspire Youth Zone where the community will be able help participants get through the remaining miles.
