Increased jail sentences for delivery drivers who sexually assaulted vulnerable girl

A delivery driver who trapped and sexually assaulted a teenage girl in her home has had his jail sentence extended – but his co-offender will escape further punishment as he was deported weeks after being jailed.

Sadnam Singh and Navjot Singh were locked up last year after trapping the 14-year-old victim in her home, groping and forcibly kissing her before laughing as they left the property. The terrified girl rang her mum in a state of distress and the pair were arrested later that day.

Preston Crown Court heard that the pair were delivering a TV to the Preston house in 2024 and the girl accepted the delivery while her mum was at work. The girl expected them to leave it on the upstairs landing but instead they took it into her bedroom.

After a period of silence in the bedroom they asked her what her name was and told her that she was pretty. They then said, “Is that it?” and the victim said “Yes”. Sadnam Singh asked “Am I not gonna get anything?” and “Are we not gonna get anything?”

Sadnam Singh then forcibly kissed and grabbed the girl and both men laughed when she said she was 14. She tried to push his hands away but he only stopped and left when she said there was someone else in the house. As Sadnam Singh left, Navjot Singh, who was still in the bedroom, said “come here” and when the girl refused he grabbed her and forcibly kissed her while she tried to push him away.

Before leaving through the front doors the offenders laughed and said “bye” and the girl collapsed to the floor. She managed to phone her mum and tell her she had been touched up by the two delivery men.

The court heard Navjot Singh came back to the front door, seemingly because either there were instructions to deliver or because he needed a signature. The mum returned and Navjot Singh claimed he needed the signature but she refused and said she would call the police, immediately reporting that she had been told by her daughter that she had been touched up.

At this point, the pair left and the mum saw that her daughter was in tears and distressed. The police contacted the respondents’ employers, and the respondents attended the police station the same morning and were arrested.

A victim impact statement detailed the long-term impact the assaults had caused to the girl.

After a trial last year, Sadnam Singh, then 28 and of Dunoon Drive, Wolverhampton, and Navjot Singh, then 26 and of Bushbury Road, Wolverhampton, were both found guilty of sexual assault. Both were handed jail sentences of two-and-a-half years.

At the time, Detective Constable Ben Clegg of Preston CID, said: “The victim was only 14 and she was sexually assaulted in a place where she should have felt safe – her own home. These two men took advantage of her when making a delivery to the address in their job as delivery drivers. This was a horrible assault on a teenager, and I welcome the sentence imposed by the judge on them.”

The sentences were referred to the Attorney General under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme and a review was carried out at the Court of Appeal this month.

However, the appeal was lodged after Home Office Immigration Enforcement had become involved and three days after the governor at HMP Risley had authorised the removal of Sadnam Singh under the Early Removal Scheme.

The pervert subsequently signed a disclaimer stating that if he ever returned to the UK he would have to serve the rest of his jail sentence and, in August, he was deported to Amritsar in India.

A Court of Appeal ruling noted that the governor should not have allowed the removal once the sentence review began. It also found the sentences were unduly lenient and replaced them with four year sentences.
