The search is on for a new six-figure highways chief for Preston and Lancashire as the current boss has quit.
Matt Townsend, director of highways and transport at Lancashire County Council, is moving on after just two years in post.
The county council confirmed he was moving to a ‘more senior leadership role with another local authority’, which Blog Preston understands to be in the South East of England.

Mr Townsend had joined the county council in 2024 from Capita.
Responsible for pothole filling, bridge building and roads resurfacing the director role has a pay packet of up to £117,998.
The county council is currently advertising for the job which states it includes responsibility for “highways infrastructure, network management, integrated transport, fleet and public transport services, this substantial portfolio supports economic growth, connectivity and quality of life across the county.”
A spokesperson for the county council said: “The Director of Highways and Transport will be leaving Lancashire County Council to take up a more senior leadership role with another local authority.
“We thank him for his contribution over the past two years.
“Arrangements for the services will be confirmed in due course. The salary for the post has been advertised as part of the recruitment process.”
