M55 closed after serious crash between car and overturned lorry

A section of motorway to the west of Preston is closed after a crash between a car and an overturned lorry.

Emergency services were called to the M55 westbound between junction 3 for Wesham and junction 4 for Blackpool before midday on Friday (10 July).

Officers from Lancashire Constabulary, crews from North West Ambulance Service and Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service and the air ambulance were all at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the lorry is thought to have clipped a stationary car on the hard shoulder before overturning, police said. The driver suffered minor injuries.

The motorway was temporarily closed in both directions but the eastbound carriageway has since reopened. Westbound remains closed while debris is cleared.

There were long delays on approach to the incident in both directions due to the crash.

Traffic is being diverted via the A585 and A583.
