M6 bedlam kicks in as people head north for the weekend

There were long delays on the M6 on Friday afternoon as drivers looked to head to places like the Lake District and Blackpool in the summer sunshine.

There were long delays on the M6 northbound from junction 28 to Leyland to junction 32 for Broughton.

On the southbound carriageway, there were long delays due to an earlier diesel spill caused by a lorry crash between junction 31 and 30.

The lorry has since been recovered and traffic has been released, according to Lancashire Constabulary.

But there are delays heading southbound past junction 32 and on the M55 queuing to join the M6 southbound.

Traffic heading northbound has been caused by high volumes of people heading away for the weekend but was exacerbated by a broken down car in the live lane. That has since been moved to safety.

As a reminder, the M6 is closed northbound between junction 33 and 34, Monday to Friday, overnight.
